Turning basic Microsoft 365 into a secured environment.

The challenge

Plenty of organisations are already paying for far more security than they are using. They sign up for Microsoft 365, get email and the familiar apps working, and stop there, leaving the protective capability that comes with it switched off or never configured. On paper they have the tools. In practice they have a basic setup and an open door.

The challenge, repeated across organisations in several different sectors, was the same each time: take an environment that was functional but barely defended and turn it into one that is genuinely secured, using capability the business often already owned.

Our approach

We worked through the same disciplined rollout in each case, adapting it to how the organisation actually operated. Microsoft Defender was deployed and configured to detect and respond to threats rather than sit dormant. Intune brought devices under management, so machines reaching company data are known and controlled rather than assumed to be safe.

On top of that, Conditional Access policies set out the rules for who can get in, from where, and on what, so access is judged on context rather than waved through on a password alone. The aim throughout was a fully secured environment that fits the organisation, not a generic template bolted on regardless.

The outcome

Each organisation moved from a basic Microsoft 365 setup to a properly secured one, with Defender deployed and Conditional Access policies in place. The protection they were entitled to is now switched on, configured, and doing its job.

The shift is from owning security tools to actually being protected by them, with managed devices, active threat defence, and access controls that hold, all built on the platform the business already had.
